An ESTA form is an application for an electronic pass to enter the USA. The ESTA document is not a visa, but a detailed information sheet to be completed by the traveler. The ESTA file is a requirement of the US government to reinforce US homeland security. This temporary residence authorization is intended for all nationals of countries belonging to the Visa Waiver Program.
Anyone in possession of an ESTA electronic authorization is granted permission to enter and reside temporarily in the USA without a visa. The pass is valid for two years.
How can I obtain a printed ESTA file?
The online form for an ESTA authorization request can be found on the official U.S. government website, or on specialized private sites. This administrative document is relatively simple and accessible, unlike the U.S. visa application. What’s more, the waiting time for a response is shorter. While a visa application can take up to four weeks to process, an ESTA authorization takes a maximum of 72 hours. What’s more, the form is easy to fill in: just follow the instructions as you go, answering the questions correctly.
If the American authorities approve your online application, you will then be able to print out your ESTA form if you wish.
What’s on the printed ESTA form?
The data entered in the ESTA questionnaire must be accurate. Information on the applicant’s identity must be entered. Surname, first name(s) and date of birth are mandatory. Biometric or electronic passport references and nationality are also required. Information concerning the traveler’s flight and itinerary may be provided in English, but is optional. The printed ESTA file contains all the information entered during the ESTA application process.
Do I need to print out an ESTA form to go to the USA?
The ESTA form is only available online, so you’re free to print it out, but you don’t have to. The ESTA is implemented directly in your passport via a computer system. When you arrive in the United States, your passport will be checked by the border police. They will be able to instantly access your file and confirm your permission to stay in the USA. In this case, you won’t need to show your ESTA.
However, it may sometimes be wise to carry a printed version of your ESTA document with you during your stay in the USA. In the event of an unannounced check by customs, it would be difficult to justify possession of an ESTA electronic authorization without an Internet connection.
